Vienna – Week 13 data dump

There are no fresh Vienna photos this week — not enough to merit a proper photo dump anyway — but the mid-week pic-bonanza from Klagenfurt will hopefully be enough to satisfy anyone who might have become dependent on these semi-regular bursts of Austrian imagery.

What I can offer instead, though, are some similarly random numbers that capture absolutely vital facets of my past three months in Austria.

  • 41 – New (to me) beers tried
  • 35 – Postcards written
  • 34 – Postcards sent [the gap between this figure and the one above will be filled as soon as I buy more stamps]
  • 14 – MA committees served on [a surprising, yet rewarding, part of my DA responsibilities]
  • 4 – Strudels eaten
  • 3 – Schnitzels eaten
  • 3 – Identities other than US-ian that people have mistaken me for [English, Irish, and “White European”]
  • 3 – Beer bars where servers recognized me as a repeat customer by mid-January
  • 2 – Times when my German was strong enough for me to catch a non-trivial mistake made by native speakers
  • 2 – Friends who do not live in Vienna whom I have seen here anyway
  • 1 – Friend who does not live in Vienna who was here and I missed out on seeing
  • 1 – Sacher torte eaten
  • 1 – Accordion players encountered on public transit
  • 0 – Days when I felt sad about missing most of a Minnesota winter
