Video(s) of the week

Cheating a little here, as these are the sort of “videos” one can find on YouTube where the images involved are irrelevant. I’ll even go so far as to admit that I haven’t looked at any of these videos past the first second or two. So maybe there’s eventually something exciting here on which to feast your eyes (or something horrifying to give you nightmares).

But the audio tracks here are amazing.

These are all big Marvin Gaye hits … but just the vocal parts (or, for “I Want You,” just the vocals and congas). Which lets you hear just how stunning his voice truly was.

Stubborn Kinda Fellow (1962)

How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) (1964)

Ain’t That Peculiar (1965)

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (1967, with Tammi Terrell)

I Heard It Through the Grapevine (1968)

Too Busy Thinking About My Baby (1969)

What’s Going On (1971)

Let’s Get It On (1973)

I Want You (1976)
